How to Delete a worksheet

Your data in the worksheet is no longer needed in your workbook? Want to know the easy ways of deleting a worksheet? Then this article will help you with an idea on how to delete a worksheet. Let’s get started.

Deleting a Worksheet:

At the bottom of the worksheet, you can see the sheet names in separate tabs. The following steps will guide you to delete a worksheet.

Delete by Right click:

Step 1: At the bottom of the workbook, select the worksheet which you want to delete.
In this example, we are going to delete the first sheet that is 2012 as seen below.

Step 2: Right-click on the sheet name and select the Delete option from the drop-down menu.

Step 3: A warning dialog box pops up asking if you want to continue the deleting process. Click Delete.

As you can see in the below image, the first sheet 2012 has been deleted.

(Note: You can also delete a worksheet using shortcut key Alt+H+D+S)

Delete by Format Option:

To delete a worksheet using Format Option, follow the below steps.

Step 1: At the bottom of the workbook, select the worksheet which you want to delete.
In this example, we are going to delete the 2013 sheet.

  • Step 2: Click on the Home tab >> select Delete (under the group name “Cells”) >> Delete Sheet.

  • Step 3: When you select Delete Sheet, you will get a warning dialogue box asking whether you want to delete the worksheet permanently. Click on the Delete button.
  • Step 4: Once you confirm the “Delete” option from the warning dialogue box, your worksheet will be removed from the worksheet.
    You can see in the below image that sheet 2013 has been deleted.

How to delete Multiple Sheets:

You can also delete multiple sheets at the same time in a Excel workbook. Let us see how,

Step 1: Select all the sheets that you want to delete using Shift or Ctrl button.

Step 2: Right click and select Delete from the drop down list or you can use the Delete option from Home tab.

Step 3: Thus you can see from the below image that your sheet 2014, 2015 has been deleted.
